The Child In Us

The Child In Us

A Poem by Dara

God bless the child in me

where I go to be comforted and heal.

To those days of bare feet and dancing in the rain

no room for sorrow, bitterness and pain.

But sadly for some this memory is shrouded

in neglect or abuse by adults who thought that

it was their right to destroy the child in those

who had no one to turn to, no one real close.

God help us please break this cycle.

Protect them from harm like the Archangel Michael.

It’s time to give voice, to defend and protest

against anyone who harms

the child in us.

Absolutely. Speaking only for myself, I don't know what I'd do without my inner child. Even though I endured much neglect when little, I still found the world a place of promise and wonder. Now an old fogey, I treasure those memories.
