Her Soulful Ways

Her Soulful Ways

A Poem by Dara

Black, bold and beautiful

A smile that mirrored the sun.

Teeth glistening

Laughter ringing

Walking down the street.

Hips swaying

Body playing

Swinging to a beat.

Brown skinned girl

You ruled the world

With your soulful

Womanly ways.

I miss you dearly

But still see you clearly

Through my foggy

Purple haze.

Maya Angelou passed away a year ago today. She lived only an hour away from me but I never had the opportunity to meet her in person. RIP Maya!

Beautiful tribute... I have read some of her work before... she was brilliantly spicy ~smiles~

Thank you Trace. She definitely was a legend in our time!
This is terrific, and I'm sure Maya would be honored. Maybe I sometimes make connections that I shouldn't, but I found one here. Purple haze made me think of Jimi Hendrix, who I could've gone to see when stationed in Jacksonville, Fla. in 1969, but didn't know who he was at the time. Duh!

This is a wonderful tribute to a timeless soul who fed a lot of our hearts with wonder and stark reality.

Thank you Moonskittles! My only regret is that she lived so close to me and yet I never met her.
