The Visit

Stepping outside to catch the sun

to absorb it’s warmth, to feel whole again,

 I took a deep breath and it caught my eye

small and delicate  flitting by.

A hummingbird paused to just say ‘hi’

then darted up towards

the bright azure sky.

Author's Note

On two occasions this week I was outside and spotted a hummingbird within inches of my face. Sadly it didn't stay very long.

I turned around one day, to find one levitating within inches from where I was standing. I think they have this thing about coming upon us when we least expect them to...and they're pretty good at it, I must say!
