A Knight and His Lady (A poem in two voices)

A Knight and His Lady (A poem in two voices)

A Poem by Patches I'm not so new anymore.
"

The conversation in this poem may or may not have taken place As marriages were arranged years in advance and love between the principals of the marriage was usually a rare occurance.

"

Lady: "A young knight

worldly, known to be wild

betrothed to a naive child."

Knight: "We were fresh married

'twas the third night, thee kissed

hesitently in evening starlight."

Lady: " Thou wert  gentle, patient, kind

 I thanked God

He had made thee mine."

Knight: "As we kissed, Mon Coeur

in that olden spring,

I knew the enchantment wouldst never end."

Lady: " Few men, monsegneur*

would have been, as understanding

as thou wert then."

Knight: "Each kiss now

fresh as our first, every kiss since

a poet's verse!

Thy lips warm, sweet as mulled wine---

 What? Oh oui J'et amie

 the babe's just fine."

*Monsegneur---- My lord

I can imagine that love would be rare in an arranged marriage. I am glad that was not in my culture growing up. Your English in this poem is awesome, I can hear the accents in the mind and the story is good as well. What a surprise to them both that love had found a way. Great write.
