Lament for Madonna*A Poem by Patches I'm not so new anymore.
I have been cursed, damned, outlawed. Once I was envied, wined and dined I entertained nobles, sang songs of praise about the lords and their ladies.
Once upon a time I was filled with happiness Sweet was my breath, my smile bright, I laughed readily, I danced, played my mandolin, lyrics of love fell unbidden from my lips.
Madonna said she loved me, we sang in the sunshine, we laughed in the rain, we cuddled in the cold.
Then she met another, alas my lady spurned me, spurned my love. Drowned I was, in my own tears. Gone is she, like smoke in the wind,
like the leaves of last summer, gone. I loved her beyond the boundary of love. I trusted beyond the boundary of trust. I am devastated, hurt beyond the limit of hurt.
Madonna hast turned her face away from this scribbler of sonnets, of chansons d’amour. She turned away from this prattler of poetry who loved her beyond reason, beyond breath.
I would have given my life for her, served her faithfully, loved her. Now I am a fugitive, traveling a dark road; sans love, sans companionship, sans hope.
None will remember the love I had for madonna. I alone remember, only this troubadour who’s heart she left as tattered as his traveling cloak Only this troubadour with blood on his hands---- She and her late lover are now together for eternity.
They are coming: her father, her brothers, her uncles, I have but two arrows ----
