This is somewhat late but there is always tomorrow .. I for one (of many)
am sick of being a pawn and a statistic is this political trash!
Please do not take this as racist as it is not even though it has the colors red, black and white and blue ...America the beautiful , from sea to shining sea is bleeding ....
Time for a peaceful revolution or do we stand and wait for another shut down possibly in December, not pay the vets or military older citizens and disabled? Close the Statue of Liberty, snuff her light ! Such q sad sack of goofies!
Sorry for the writing of this have not written in a year...!
And rest in peace Lou Reed.

What a great metaphor you used for a political rant. Very clever. All the characters you threw in made the poem even better. Lou Reed is walking on the wild side now....and Marcia Wallace is still sitting behind the reception desk in Dr. Hartley's office. They left us too soon. Very enjoyable read, Chloe. Lydi**

I love this poem!! It speaks a lot and besides its meaning I just love it because...it's awesome!!!!!
I Love Donovan and Starry Starry Night is the BEST SONG!!! Vincent Van Gough didn't and still doesn't get enough credit for all his work!

Donovan is a fine writer and singer, Starry Night touched my soul and true , Vincent got little respect or cash until he was gone.Again, thank you.
I certainly didn't take this as a racist poem. And there is enough blame to go around for both of the parties. But it is so disappointing that politics alone, and not the country'e welfare, seems to have taken the central seat in Washington. Yes, we have lost so much in recent years as a people and a nation. We are not the country I hoped we could be. Still, as a nation of fickle humans, such behavior is not unknown in the past. We have an ignoble heritage of stealing the country from the American Indians, slavery, followed by years of racial hatred, incarcerating the Japanese during WW II, many of which were US citizens (my father, a German national also spent 2 years in prison camp in South Dakota), and the McCarthy communism horror, to mention just a few. Nonetheless, we are off-track again and need to fix a lot of things. I join with the Red Queen in shedding more that a few tears.

The bickering in Washington is just the tip of the iceberg. It's sort of tame, actually, with what i going on elsewhere. But we should strive to be humane and to rise above. I like the word "humane", actually, since it so aptly reminds us of where we should be morally and socially. Too often this is ignored.
Kindest regards,
Rick
