Sweaters

A simple poem I'm hoping will make you smile.

 

Nimble fingers are a-dancing

Knitting word on word together

Then strikes at shades of black and grey

Oh what a dismal looking sweater.

 

Across the way, words are running

Up and down the rainbow bright

Green and purple, yellow and blue

A colourful sweater of delight.

 

Winter peeps through every season

Sending clouds of sulking grey

The store displays these knitted words

A passer-by looks at this display

 

Which one to buy to keep in warmth

There is no doubt of which to choose

A rainbow keeps all winter out

For these hues are sent to you to sooth.

 

So knit ye not a thousand words

In colours of a darkly hue

To dull the brain and bring the rain

Knit a rainbow to see you through.

I'm reminded of a time in my youth where my grandmother would sit in a chair and with her glasses on spend most of the night knitting quilts. The care and dedication she put into them was so much. There was always a lesson to learn from her and in this endeavor it was to have pride in one's work and see it through to completion once you start something. CLE

this is very creative in its metaphor, Pauline.
If I even knew how to knit ....well I do knit poems and some look like they should be entered into
an ugly sweater/poem contest.

What a fitting poem for me to be reading as the rain batters Milton Keynes.
A lovely, well rhymed poem for this season.
