What's That Noise?A Poem by Sharon Miller BolanderTinnitis, but only in one ear
What's that noise I think I hear?
It's constant buzzing in one ear It's always there I'm never free It seems a cricket Lives in me I used to think that I could hear Some distant broadcast in one ear I'd lie in bed And concentrate Not comprehend What is my fate I long for silence, peaceful rest And settle now for what seems best Some music played Familiar strains Like pleasant sounds of Nature's rains Those noises in my head are real They stay no matter how I feel Adjust I must Or so I'm told A price I pay For growing old
