Autumn morning

We were woken this morning

Wednesday the first day of October

By bright sunshine

Ho! Good, It looks like the start of a lovely day

A day in the garden

Out of bed it feels chilly

Ah well just add a jumper

It is still a bright outlook

Fully dressed we open the curtains

The sun is still shining

But the ground is wet

It is dry underneath the cars

I sign of rain has passed over

Down stairs open the kitchen window blinds

There are a few puddles on the patio

There are splashes in the puddles

It is raining

Boil the kettle to make a drink

Sunshine again

Make our breakfasts

Wash up the breakfast pots

It is more rain

Forget going out this morning

The weather map

Shows a bright afternoon

If we are lucky

This poem really captures the charm of a typical morning. It's great, the way sunshine and rain keep trading places which feels so true about autumn. I enjoy how the domestic details, like making tea and washing up, sit alongside the shifting weather. It’s a lovely reminder of how poetry lives in the everyday. 🙏🕊️

When it's showery weather it is the only way - inside when it rains -outside when it dries

Whilst one may beat an egg or a drum a carpet and maybe around the proverbial bush .. one can't beat a good old Autumn morning .. I enjoyed my visit here up north, just now .. made me hanker for a sliver of Kendal mint Cake .. Neville

Sometimes the weather just won't cooperate. Is it climate change or just an instance of bad luck?

Hi sometimes our outlook can define our day.
I love the sweet memories.

This poem beautifully captures the ebb and flow of an autumn morning—sunlight, rain, puddles—and the quiet intimacy of daily life. Simple moments feel cinematic and alive, letting the reader step right into the scene.

We seem to have escaped the rain you have been having. It seems the bright sun of your early morning yesterday, didn’t last. Your poem is lovely and upbeat despite the rainfall, which of course is as important for growth as sunlight. Hope you have a great day today pete.

Yes I have heard that inclement weather can move in quickly. Be prepared, wise words.

We may be out on the fells for 12 hours at a time
we can never predict the weather, but you sure do have a sunny outlook...remember the grass needs some rain...and if the sun peeps behind those clouds, maybe there will be a rainbow....NICE!!!
Warmly, B

This is a wonderful poem! My steps were right beside the author painting perfectly the day!
We've had lots of rain, too!
Kind of depressing but needed!
We are blessed!
