HealedA Poem by ElisaMy eyes feel swollen. The gray light inside the elevator is way too bright, and everything else is getting darker... Then, the elevator stops First floor, and the doors open. Before we met, I couldn't stop to appreciate the sound of an elevator. Now, as I wait for my daily descent, and I hear the elevator stop at each floor, my palms sweat, and I smile uncontrollably. It means I'm one floor, one step, one inch closer to my refuge. I close my eyes and sigh, every time. Night, and you're free. My aching body nourished with sickly blood held, embraced, healed in your arms after believing this time would never come. Surrounded by trees, twinkling lights, coated in darkness and secrecy: This is where they'll find us If they ever come looking. I look up at the leaves darkened by night wishing I could take this moment and pour it into my veins. Then, you'd be the closest to my heart any man has ever been.
