I Rise In A White Linen Dress

I rise in a white linen dress
and leave the bed to find my life.
If I could give my life a name
add a bold swing to everything.
stack my mind in black & white
small compartments to take out
on odd days and acquaint myself
with moths accosted by the light
with heavy spades of earth turned round
May lilies with a plaint of dawn
A sun glove opening the day
I would not linger in the ruins.
but swing along on the good turns.
I would walk slow along the streets
and search the stores for my right hand.
I hope I left it with a friend.
I would drink coffee while a rush
of caffeine sped my wanderlust,
until my swing became a whirl
of white wind rushing by my face,
a dozen holes blown in my dress.
