Inept

Inept

A Poem by piccolabeth

I thought that the world was my oyster -
That the fish was right there
If I could just catch her,
But she slipped through my fingers
(As though they had holes in)
And she swam through the brook,
Through the stream to the ocean.
There aren't enough fish in the sea.

I thought the sky was my kingdom -
That the star would keep shining
If I could just wish on him,
But he fled from my eye-line
(As though he were shooting)
And he shot through the black,
Through the night to the morning.
I cannot wish upon a star.

I thought that the battle was raging -
That the bull would keep fighting
If I could just ride him,
But he grazed on my pastures
(As though he was feeding)
And ate through my land,
Through my lawn, to my fields.
I cannot take the bull by its horns.

I thought that the world was my garden -
That the flowers would grow
If I could just plant them,
But the petals would fall
(As though I had touched them)
And fall through the air,
Through the float, to the floor.
I cannot sew my seeds.
