The Clown’s Smile

 

The clown paints his face

To make the kids laugh and play.

He hides behind their smiles,

Though all the while

His own he’s still trying to claim.

Reminds me of the old Smokey Robinson song, "The Tears of a Clown." The clown face is like any other mask, hiding what the person doesn't want revealed, glossing over what NOT to dwell on. So many people fear or dislike clowns, your piece had this reader feeling empathy for the clown. It was very nice how you pulled that off. Great write! take care...dan
