Your Name on the Window Pane

Your Name on the Window Pane

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Cold to the touch,

I weave through the frost

Letters that mean so much.

Feeling the loss.

Swirling with my fingertip,

I once again feel the ache.

My heart feels the nip

As I write your name.

My fingers numb,

Though I keep going

Until finishing what was begun,

With every letter showing.

My thoughts always on you,

I miss you each day.

Recalling a time true,

I write your name.

All too soon, I notice the letters drip

Like the tears upon my cheeks.

Falling away in watery strips,

I watch until the bottom they meet.

I then devised a plan

To forever have you stay.

I took a tool in my hand

And as in my heart… I carved your name on the window pane.

When the letters written in frost begin to melt, a more permanent solution is needed; similarly, memories can melt and fade, so a more concrete reminder is needed. The memory is then carved into the soul. A beautifully written piece, Melinda, full of love and longing. take care...dan

You are welcome Melinda.
I loved the imagery of this poem. The thought is something I'm sure many can relate to. Writing someone's name in the dampness of a window pane and hoping it lasts and when we find it doesn't, we search for other ways to show our devotion. Really great work.
