O Words of Sweet SplendorA Poem by Melinda McQueenO Words of Sweet Splendor
A tender word spoken Can be a salve to a heart broken. O how words have power In which can shower-- Shower a soul with blessings, Or devour a soul with arrows’ sting. Yes, there’s pow’r in the tongue; O how loudly sung! Words can fit in a heart, Both encouraging and discouraging have an art. Fill it with good, So that the receiving heart is understood. Words of anger and resentment fly off the handle, Becoming a steadfast piece on someone’s mantle. A thing to fixate, Something the mind contemplates. Like a sponge is wrung, Yet, still holds on to water as air to lungs, Mind and soul absorb Much, much more. No eye can see the whelps, But in the heart are they felt. So, may we speak words tender, Let our words be menders And always up-lifters. O words of sweet splendor!
