Freedom the HorseA Poem by Melinda McQueenFreedom the Horse
There once lived a horse whose mane was as silk. A mighty Stallion by breed, his coat black, his mane blacker still.
He’d lived his life wild and free, running with others. Powerful and strong, complete in wonder.
Along his graceful gallop, he spotted a girl watching from a fence. She watched in amazement as the horses ran, and something about her he sensed.
So, departing from the heard, the bold horse trotted over to where she sat. Upon seeing him come close, she smiled at his act.
She leaned close from her chair, admiring his beauty. She suddenly didn’t feel alone, for the creature had come to greet.
She loved watching the horses run free, as her inner self longed for freedom. However, this magnificent beat had come to her and a friendship begun.
Timidly, she reached out her hand, touching the horse. He stretched his neck downward over the fence, she stroked his mane, course.
The two bonded, he enjoyed her company as much as she, his. For a while, he offered his peace.
She’d loved watching the horses run free, but now she had touched one wildly beautiful. In doing so, she felt she could do anything, as her spirit lulled.
On a bright, sunshine day, two creatures shared a force In a moment in time. She named him Freedom the Horse.
