Her Diamond HouseA Poem by Melinda McQueenHer Diamond House
There once was a girl who lived in a diamond-- a house shaped like a fine diamond, fair to look upon.
It sparkled and how did it shine, a beauty to all who passed by. Everyone was captivated, some were even jealous of the sight.
The girl lived alone in her diamond house. So discontented was she that she never went out.
Often
finding herself sad, In a way she was relieved, for she didn’t want any to see it.
She marveled at how people seemed to slow when passing her diamond house, but never knocked on her door. Weren’t they a little bit curious as to what the inside was all about?
She had everyone fooled. Though the outside shone, sparkling with beauty, the inside was all her own.
Its wooden boards, broken and charred, as though a fire had broken out. She sat on the rotting floor of her diamond house.
If only they knew the state she was in. But she didn’t let them see the hurt within.
