Memories in Reverse

Memories in Reverse

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Memories in Reverse

Long shadows cast over the pavement,

shades of grey softly dense.

A walk down the street,

more of the same to meet.

The path her frequent.

She enjoyed the fresh air,

the breeze ruffled her hair.

Along her walk she pondered

thoughts of her mind as she wandered.

Her heart filled with cares.

Everything she could recall…

how he looked, how he spoke, she knew it all.

Scenes played in her mind’s eye,

she always remembered him in the best light…

from the day they met, to the final fall.

The sun shone,

her head instinctively rose.

Filling its glistening ray upon her face,

she slowed her gait.

She did not feel alone.

For his memory were hers,

ever inside, never to purge.

Though long gone,

he was still her own.

she knew him, better and worst.

Because he would want her to submerge

in the good times and to still splurge

in the power of their love…

she remembered he was still enough,

as now were her memories in reverse.
