The Night's Ocean of Dreams

The Night's Ocean of Dreams

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Night's Ocean of Dreams

Night blue paints the sky,
as its reflection shimmers on the ocean.

The sun dove a while ago,
seemingly only a notion.

Waves lap in rhythm,
slow and steady, like a heartbeat at ease.

Turtles swim to shore,
resting in tranquil peace.

All else is still,
as sleepy stars wink from above.

A silent time of sweet wonder,
as the world dreams of tomorrow’s love.

Today is long gone,
like an old friend never to return again.

A cherished memory to stay the heart
while opportunities anew wash in.

A full moon looks down
to see its mirrored self
dancing in the turquoise waters,
deeply it delves.

Soon, the morning sun will peek through,
and another day will take shape.

But for now, the ocean‘s content
to dream in melodic waves.

The waves of the night’s ocean
visit the once labored shore.

Washing clean the slate
for tomorrow’s endeavors.

I remember a few years back watching a sunset on the bay in Monterey that was just as beautiful as your words are. And just as in your poem one is left in pure wonder. Thank you Melinda.

Yeah butterflies are great. Thank you for reading. Your review is much appreciated.
It's impeccable how you are able capture the imagery of this story. Not to mention the story of enjoying this peaceful moment, knowing that tomorrow will come, but this in the now.

Beautiful work, so poetically expressed with awesome imagery. Like this one very much Melinda. So soothing as the day comes to a close. Felt that gentle lapping on the shore.

I like the way the poem captures a single moment through the skillful use of imagery. Tomorrow is coming, but that is later. Let us now enjoy this moment of tranquility, savoring the manner in which the night has washed away the stresses and struggles of the previous day.
