The Mighty Oak Tree

The Mighty Oak Tree

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Mighty Oak Tree

Swaying upon a warm summer’s breeze,

Its members dance with pure abandon.

The Texas heat bows a little,

Sighing, its branches begin their slumber.

Reaching to the sky in praise,

Its strength shown through the years.

Its roots deep, tried and true.

The sun trickles through green leaves,

Casting a soft glow in bliss.

Its form exhales in sweet release,

It’s lived through the long ages…

Never forgetting to glorify its Maker.

Hosting birds in its protective shelter,

Loyal to creation, and the Creator.

Standing the test of sacred time

Is the ever mighty Oak Tree.

You are welcome dear Melinda.
Yes, the mighty oak is a good metaphor for faith. I like nature poems and poems that reflect faith. I have written a few.

oh I bet that old Oak has stories to tell. Imagine all the beautiful sunsets and winters it has seen. All the smiles and tears that pass it by. It truly is majestic for a reason. Thank you Melinda for sharing your work.

it is all that, McQueen! nice tribute to the oak ... i live in a mixed forest .. oaks and pines reaching 80-100 feet tall .. and boy do they ever sway in the wind ... a beautiful thing to experience ... makes me think of the movie "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" ... in the scene when they were fighting among the very tops of the swaying trees and bamboo ... that motion is magical says i! thanks for sharing ma'am!

A lovely descriptive write of the beautiful oak tree Melinda. Written in free verse. You usually write in rhyme so this was quite different from you. I love what you had to say here. I love both rhyme, meter and free verse.

dear Melinda… the Giant Oak Tree deserves your Praise. When my Son Robert was three years old, we lived in a Community in Washington Grove, Maryland. There were mainly Oak trees and when the Acorns started to fall in Autumn, we wore Hard Hats, since the Acorns hit your Head with a real bump on your head. I love the Shape of the Leaves and the veins throughout the Leaves.., Embroidery of the Sewing Circle Women… tenderly, Pat
