In Closing Her Eyes

In Closing Her Eyes

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

In Closing Her Eyes

Wading in the water,
she feels at peace.

It had been a long while
since she’s visited the beach

The last year and a half

has been hectic to say the least.

Unheard of troubles
have clearly peaked.

She is grateful to get away

and enjoy a bit of normalcy.

If but for a while,
she’ll have a release.

Mini waves lap around her,

creating a haven her own.

In the bluest sky she’s ever seen,
the sun has vibrantly shone.

In closing her eyes,
she hears the sounds
of distant, bigger waves
crashing around.

Soon, she’d be back to work,
doing what she loves.

Hoping to be strong,
to be the human touch.

She’s soaking in the beauty,
to recall during stressful days.

She’ll need to close her eyes often,

for she’s a nurse who prays.
