A Special Birthday Party

A Special Birthday Party

 

Sitting alone in their favorite restaurant,
sadness hung on to her wrinkled face.

Though she was there,
it wasn’t the same.

 

Even so, she was there
to celebrate a very important day.

She proceeded to take from her bag
a single cupcake.

 

Placing a candle,
she lit it afire with an unsteady hand.

No, it wasn’t her birthday,
but her late husband’s.

 

Upon noticing,
the waitress knew full well.

So, rounding up diners,
they came to dwell.

 

“We want to sing” the waitress informed,
“‘Happy Birthday’ to your husband.”

The woman smiled at the kindness,
as she slowly moved her aged hand.

 

Grasping the band
which she wore on a chain,
“I wear his ring,
so, he’s with me every day.”

 

What a sweet gesture
in helping a sweet lady…
celebrate in throwing
a special birthday party.
