The Coming Christ

The Coming Christ

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Coming Christ

The time appointed had arrived,

And He was willing to answer the call.

Knowing what lay before Him,

Yet pressed onward for all.

The reason He was born

Was about to be mightily fulfilled.

With all of His Father’s love,

He would fulfill His will.

Knowing what He would endure,

Yet He did not stall but looked straight ahead.

He knew it was the Father’s will

To make alive the dead.

Humbly, Jesus came into Jerusalem

Riding on the back of a lowly donkey,

While palm branches respectfully

Lay in His path along his journey.

He had made His destination,

And “Hosanna in the highest” was exuberantly sung.

Jesus was there, and would soon die:

For our sins, to the cross He hung.

The Savior would experience

Separation from the Father as He carried our sin.

Christ would soon cling to the cross

To create life without end.

all reminders of Jesus Christ and His way for all to actually enter heaven is, for me, always a blessing. in V2 i might try and find another way to say what it says without repeating "fulfilled/fulfill" .. just a thought .. Jesus story for those several days is told with strength and wisdom, says i! i think your poem holds true to events written about in the Bible .. always a strong voice, McQueen!! thanks for sharing always

Beautiful poetry dear Melinda to commemorate Palm Sunday, Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, the Sunday before Easter. A pleasure to read you again.

This poem is reverent, structured, and heartfelt. It beautifully traces the journey of Christ’s arrival and sacrifice, using clear imagery and a steady rhythm that reflects both respect and devotion. Lines like “Humbly, Jesus came into Jerusalem / Riding on the back of a lowly donkey” make the biblical scene vivid, while the consistent focus on His purpose and love keeps the poem grounded in faith. It balances narrative and reflection well, giving readers both a visual and emotional understanding of the story. Overall, it’s sincere, accessible, and uplifting.

Thanks so much!
You know what the title of this poem insinuates right? Like, ha, people who haven't read this and just see the title might think it's pornographic. Like, half the population is like that now. Yee Haw!
