When You Were Risen

When You Were Risen

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

When You Were Risen

You completed Your work,

For You bore our sins in Your body.

Taking the pain,

You set us free

Though put in the grave,

It could not hold my Lord, my Savior down.

For… three days later,

When You were risen, love abound.

Chains were broken,

The veil ripped down its center

The day you gave Your life,

So heaven we may enter.

Then, You took back

Your everlasting, Kingly life

When You were risen,

For all time.

Hearts fill with Light,

Souls are set free by the Blood.

When You, Jesus, defeated death,

Our way to eternity is One.

Your perfect plan

All-consuming and love-driven.

Yes, love had a say

When You were risen.
