The Lady on the Train

The Lady on the Train

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Lady on the Train

The train stopped,

and passengers idly drifted away.

Each on their journey,

all are different, yet the same.

Following their path,

they are getting by, merely moving through.

Time is of the essence,

must get there soon.

She blew a puff of air,

causing her brunette bangs to momentarily dance.

She knew not where to go,

but she’d searched for her second chance.

The other passengers

have long vacated the train,

but she was still in her seat,
her doubts remained.

She’d  boarded the train,
not knowing where she would get off.

All she knew was
that she felt lost.

Finally, she picked up
her baggage and made for the door.

The sunlight shone on her,
and she knew there was more.

She had been on the train
for quite some time, lost and alone.

But now she knew
that she was never on her own.

Looking heavenward,
she paid no mind to the fleeing train.

Someone ran into her, “I’m sorry,”

“No, it’s okay.”

“Where are you headed?”
he asked, picking up her luggage, “What’s your name?”

She replied, “I’m finding my way in Christ.

my name is Grace.”
