My Beloved

My Beloved

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

My beloved

How could I live without my beloved?

To go each day without seeing his face.

His lips are the plumpest of red,

His kisses, time cannot erase.

His head full of lazy curls

Are combed betwixt my fingers.

How I’d count every swirl

If tomorrow, he’d not linger.

I’d feel like the deepest of losses

If he no longer shadowed my side.

I’d be acquainted with my lowest,

For he is where most of me resides.

My beloved is mine,

And I’m my beloved’s for all time.
