"I remember" said I,

a smile upon my face.

Just drifting,

drifting in that happy place.

A time of wonder

and hearts content.

Days gone by

a lifetime spent.

Gentle memories

of all that was.

The painful loss

of those I loved.

And thoughts of you

still make me smile

So here I think

I'll stay awhile.

I quit going to funerals, perhaps I shouldn't have done that. So many of my friends are dead. I know it's for the living that one attends a funeral, but there have been so many. Maybe I'm just a coward..........great poem ......thanks for sharing

...not at all my friend, I too do not attend any funerals. I can't bear to see them like that. I prefer to have my last memory of them when they were alive and smiling...thanks for the read.:)

Bittersweet with a touches of sadness and remembrances yet hope, and you leave with a smile to end on. It made my heart smile too since it brought thoughts of my sister. Nicely penned.
