Short & Sweet (The Distance)

Short & Sweet (The Distance)

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

the distance between an embrace

and the tortured love in my eyes,

from need and simple wish, fulfilled

quickly your ample kisses, still

just a truth-strong explanation

and a reason full of our moments here

that is all i'm pining for,

proof without the papers or a trail

which leads to multiplying questions:

where, what, who, and why ? (preys tell)

the distance between your mouth

and complimentary lies, like the dark,

not as spacial or as far from hell

as you think, and yet these non-verbal scars are

continually opening...

you have the keys to this, my kingdom

come and take a deeper drink

you have not, the power to hinder harm

yet the pain is sweet, as you complete

each silent cut, in each stranger's bed,

here--all in the wiles of lonely--i bleed

yearning to link

the distance of your sidewinding winks

your easy eyes hunger to still be fed

and mine are constant-watching you eat;

my heart, cracked open, my head

can hardly think; imbued with applause for you,

the talents of a wander-kind

magician in mischief nude, de-robed

the distances, they have no traffic signs.

roads that stretch are fractured truths retold.

i'm a cup of compliment, complete & / clear of dirt

and the drink (you cannot) attend to it so

while others tend to smirk, without a word:

how stupid & a child must be, of me

they think, the distance is naught to see

observations, but quick in flights of fantasy

my own believing--can only be : my own hurts :

the distance between love and the burn...

tho' never sought the fire's warmth

yet short of stupid and sweet, was i, to learn

now end it - if it has no pulse

this distance of your heart :

my curse and destination both...

amazing. I can't tell if it's more fearful or sad... it could be either.
