Broken English

"enunciation shows education"

i tell this island boy

like a big bro

when he speaks broken english

street slang superiority

as he lights up green marie

dominoes dance while the poi song plays

and the king of beers

with bonfire stories of Hawaii

keep us warm

keep us close

while laughter rises / in the new year sky

i am guest and friend

without reasons why / no matter

if a white boy is in his hood

or a suburbian flip

is in his wisdom of death understood

experienced from all that hurts and loss

but here, we are without

full in moments of friends

even in broken english

joy's time is spent

luck / life for the new year, we mend

friendships are lent

warmth of a laughters' gathering

our Hawaiian trend

even in broken english...
