Once...

Once...

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

Once...

Tender once... his fingers

the newness to my touch

avid eyes that miracle meanings

in the sunrise light of us,

enjoying the immersing of our bodies,

carrying each other's stories

scuttle and searching

for that hot blizzard's blessing

named with our limbs & lips;

hours-long kissing...

as if you'll be gone tomorrow

     with the glory...

Blithe once... in his light

as my craving roars for him

ushered by urgency

my heart's only emergency,

indifferent to the world's blame

crazy by association...

and in the sweat he whispers all my names.

Wonderful once... our half life

and as you  grow weary of us,

your eyes wander for distracting ornaments;

ask for directions

"new" is down on the boulevard

inside the clamorous clubs;

and now that my story has been read,

my eyes I rub--to clear my sight

in the sunset light

of what was

once ... us ...

                       now fled.
