How Will We Believe...A Poem by Butch DecatoriaHow will we believe when the world is a devil's meal
we are born neither destined nor corporeal, not bad or good but by how we breathe
our moments here, of self-consealed mistakes and lies harbor what we believe to be
not knowing eats away that inner light we often forsake what to hear, listen instead to parental ministries
we are products of their authority to be good is to heed
shove and swallow our confidence to placate their failures, wishes, lost in need
we do not understand reasons why, where, or when to admit defeat weakness is no one, but in us to see
liars are believed when consistency is their shield when their words are accepted by friends and family
they will live that lie, or what they steal trust becomes a hunger to them what seems or feels real
to believe a liar is to unbutton your chest, revealing your heart to consume a kiss of steel
how can we believe when the world is a devil's meal...?
