Quit

Quit

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

Written in 2007, knowing is not the same as accomplishing or completion - of a task or goal - to defeat one's own demons.

"

QUIT

Today,

with the sun on my side

today (in such bright optimistic light) i will myself to decide

put my foot down,

tomorrow i am going to

quit

all this - nonsense :

losing oneself in the divisible dialect

and dumb-speak of

bullshit...

today, i am moving forward

rid that creature with his infinite seeming

habits

tomorrow morning, after

in that first half-hour

cigarette,

become the aggressive

no longer the engergizer

rabbit

of forgetfulness

masquerading immobility

unless you hit or get hit - funked and serviced

both holes equally...

first thing tomorrow, say to self

undeniably

motivated

by all that is exhausting

the heart and soul - in such frivolous frosting,

the chaos in the shadow's scrotum

accosting...

aware now

that realities - in and out

of the postings on men4sexnow dot

come and relieves nothing

but the devil's advocate

relocating

this paranoia on ice

has made life and my creativity's revolting

unattractively uninspiring...

the universe is molting

the skin of what was beautiful

in first sighting

our love,

in spite of the leathering...

i will restore

tomorrow, when sober are my eyes

upon our quick fix

sex - left to sleep - i will leave in the sheets;

i have decided

to save our relationship

and my sanity :

i am going to try to

quit

all this nonsense (for that's what it is)

all this nightly deathwish

so many fragrances of us lost to

bullshit

i am putting my best foot down

i quit.

(you are welcome beside me, will you sit...?)

Poetic flow, like a stream of words that keep you glued to the poem. I enjoyed this read, and will read it again :) thanks for sharing it :) Frank

I like this. I like that you are quitting something abstract rather than palpable like smoking cigarettes, you are quitting a way of life, a personality, moving on to something better.
And that is depicted very well in this poem. There is a lot of feeling, yet it's not heavy. Great Job.

This piece flows smoothly. I love the "in your face" tone. It all goes together very well. Thank you for sharing.
