Waking SUNA Poem by Butch Decatoria
Waking Sun
The song of a bird at dawn,
when every shadow glows blue, resounds,
and a small whisker of a cloud
gathered at the horizon greets
the waking sun…like an eye
slow to open—touching the sky, meekly.
Amber splash upon a halo crown,
this welcoming cloud crumbs cluster
our artistic light begins so…
While eggshell whitened backdrop
Blooms across the quilted tops
of hush-soft pillows, afloat now, go…
A pool azure stretch of sky
with whites in fluorescence, glows
like neon, a heaven-billboard sheen
on valley hills rising climbs, gleaned.
The light’s reposed skeins, sublime
from backs of tiny mountains linked,
a fan of morning’s sunlit winks
shadows, songs, and birds awakening…
This view from a desert’s pace
Rancho Viejo patio box seats
even with a chill of early bare feet
it is reassuring to witness be
our home’s theatrical dome…
Patiently our firmament’s coloring
complete like a single chandelier
open as the dawn begins to bleed,
fully as our lungs can only breathe
the effortless magnificence
of godly light and world and us
combined, inside our minds’ eye
We are loved, by proof of this
Paintings’ coalesced gift to us,
the goodness and knowing now
Why we feel our light
We trade our love as our muse
to each other reflects
the balance, and respect
Uniting the world: a gift of new…
Waking sun, a promise,
reality is set, our love can only be true.
