FacelessA Poem by Butch DecatoriaBelated Halloween Poem.
Faceless
It is past dusk, another curfew dust,
All Soul’s Day gone and gleaned
Mother Moon’s lipstick shadow
Not a man could wear such
A plump smile
Full face so kind to light that festive night
And the only evidence
Of a Hallow’s Eve : I have
An untouched plastic candy-bowl
Because the children know
The prime location for that night’s treats
Making my loneliness
Such a misery – a trick : street walking :
Alienation
Is having no mask
When the world is drenched in façade,
And the reality
Of our futures have gone
To better climbs,
To find an edible evening
Sweetened holidays away
From their own malady of neighborhoods
Outcast is a street without trick-or-treaters
Isolation is a candy-dish without tiny hands
Grabbing their able fingers
Worth
And now, I’ve developed a cavity
From the bite-sized
Snickers.
An aching tooth.
A hole needing to be filled.
Loneliness, wanting to be recognized,
Is a snicker
Unable to cease its hunger.
The moon is draped in a shroud
Like my existence
Faceless…
