Light

A piece (sonnet) about the importance of loving yourself. My first poem.

Its light shines brighter than a million stars,
and wields the power to save broken hearts;
it burns through the sky to wherever you are,
then leaves its marks over fading scars.

Endlessly fighting that which seems to prevail:
a darkness erupting from the coldest place,
its light secures a protecting veil
which keeps you safe in the darkest of days.

But when shrouded in darkness this light becomes frail; 
it looses its strength to the night which impales,
the spark that resides in the core of our veins; 
carrying the key to unlock its chains.

Thus, always protect this light beneath your skin; 
the strongest of powers come from within.
