On being a Dad

On being a Dad

A Poem by PolarPaddy
"

A poem dedicated to the composer’s children and grandchildren, revolving around his contemplations of being a father, reflecting upon the complexities of paternity, aging, and the enduring bonds of fa

"

Reflecting in the here and now upon my life as a dad,

The most responsible role that I've ever had,

An empty nester now, the bairns, full grown and gone,

And with each, a concealed umbilical cord never undone.

Through life's tempests and tranquillity, I do bear,

With love, knowledge, conversations and care,

Such is the call of family life, forever a dad,

Blest now with grandkids, my heart is ever so glad.

Although, I am now aged, a wiser old man,

And dedicated to remain with you, for as long as I can,

Through life, as my kids dad, I tried my darned hardest,

Abide with a kindness to all, after I'm laid to rest.

Through being a dad, my life's deeds say it best,

In a world facing changes, upheaval, and social unrest,

With vision and grit, wavered but remained loyal and true,

To my kids, the recollections of me, will always be with you.
