Happily Ever After

Probably the most depressing fairytale you will ever read.

Once upon a time,
A little girl sat and cried
Because the enemy dropped bombs
And her entire family died.

Once upon a time,
An young orphan was saved
Because a man had plans
That were so very depraved.

Once upon a time,
A small child was sold
Because some like them young
And others like the gold.

Once upon a time,
A eight-year-old was depressed
Because no one stopped the man
Who forced her to get undressed.

Once upon a time,
A ten-year-old walked the street
Because she needed to find a man
So she could afford to eat.

Once upon a time,
A preteen had nothing to lose
Because her best option was a man
Who was a slave to the booze.

Once upon a time,
A teenager was relieved
Because she was beaten so badly
She lost the accident they conceived.

Once upon a time,
A young woman was found hanging from a rafter
Because some people will never have
A Happily Ever After.

Author's Note

I wrote this today (Saturday, July 30, 2011). Before anyone asks, no this is completely unrelated to any experiences I have ever had. And no, I am not trying to condone suicide nor demeaning rape, nor saying that miscarriage is a good thing. I'm just saying that sometime fairytales and even just regular books piss me off because they all end up so happy and dandy at the end. That's just not how life works.
