What if I am wrong?

What if I am wrong?

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I am convinced

I am sure

I am your be all end all

I am the girl of your dreams.

But what if I am wrong?

I will put my faith in you

I will rest my head on you

I will feel safe with you

I will not want anyone but you

But what if I am wrong?

You are startled by my eyes

You dream of me at night

You see me when you look to heaven

You can't get me out of your head.

But what if I am wrong?

We will take the world by storm

We will hang our hats on the earth

We will be the subject of sonnets

We will live happily ever after.

But what if I am wrong?

What if you will take away my pain?

What if you will keep me safe?

What if you can't stop thinking of me?

What if we do belong together?

But what if I am wrong?

I know I should leave

I know I should start over

I know I should leave the past in my wake

I know I have no future here.

But what if I am wrong
