You didn't know

You didn't know

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Out of hand
what I said.
what I did.
I was wrong
I am sorry.
you've gotten the wrong idea.

Far from accidental.
I was using you
I knew it
I did it anyway
And you didn't see

Hard to be the boy you are
I was looking for a man.
You thought me smitten.
An illusion I play well
in hopes of instant gratification
And you didn't see through me.

Call it destiny
you didn't know
I am sorry
I don't want you.
You never knew that I never did.

That is some powerful medicine. Brutally honest...brutally. I like how you command the situation...you are in control. Not letting something get further out of hand you make the hard decisions. You have so powerfully expressed yourself here and you leave nothing on the table. I like the unique style that you have written in form with the break in stanza three.

Nicely done,
Todd
