Until I saw your face today.

Until I saw your face today.

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I have been doing so well,
walking with my head finally held up
smiling at the sun
blowing kisses at the moon
and loving the people who deserve and feel my love
I have been holding myself at standards raised
taking the time to live
proving my needs are not a waste of time
but necessary
bowing and taking my cue from god.
I have been keeping up with the Jones's
showing off my status
flooding the scene with my radiance
not fearing the spotlight for which i crave
not holding back out of fear of competition.
I have been doing so well with out you
finally able to say that I can breathe free
admiring the way I live free
free of the way you beat me down
until I saw your face today.
