Bright lights

Bright lights

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

In all of my fantasies
there is a bright light over your head
blinding me when I look directly at your face.
God's warning me that if I were to stare to long
I would go blind,
but I can't help but notice how shiny your hair is.
The words that you say to me are cryptic,
masking what you wish to say
but can't in good conscience.
All is forgiven and forgotten at once,
when you present your game with such a nice smile.
You take me for someone desperate for you
Maybe I am,
but in my fantasies you are desperate for me.
So it goes
as it has for years, decades, hours and seconds.
Past days have found me at peace with my position
Until tonight when I decided to take reality back.
