Again Last Night.

Again Last Night.

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

Break my heart and hope to cry

I died for love again last night.

Fairy tales and shots of whiskey

mixed up the signals I should have been hearing
I covered my face with the hands of the divine

and took our sin in stride

With my sense of decency locked safely away,

I let you destroy my sleep.

If I should die before I wake

I would beg you to take this moment from me,

freeing me from my current transgressions

and givivng me back my pride.

As I lay me down to sleep

to fluttering eyes, I pray my safety keep.

Be calm, this night, my spellbound heart

until you beat once more.

i like the bounce of this, it has a great flow. i also like the interweaving of children's rhymes and skewing them, and the last line is perfect.
