Martha's Vineyard

Martha's Vineyard

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

The air was the sea and the sea was them

Held together by ribbons of fate and promises

Vows to each other to always remain

The sky was purple and the wind was music

Moving them gently through the star light

Perfectly in time with each other’s step.

The song was of love and the love was from long ago

Written in a language long since deceased

Which both their hearts understood

The promise was made and hearts were sown together

Long held scars vanished under each of their hands

As the both held on gently to the other’s worries.

And that is what love is, and love is just that

Beauty in the seaside nightlights

Between two souls who took the risk of believing.
