Vietnam's data center market is booming, projected to hit $3.19 billion by 2031. Explore key drivers, investment incentives, top cities, and what makes Vietnam a rising hub for cloud

"

When analysts look at Vietnam's data center growth story, Ho Chi Minh City consistently sits at the center of it. The city is the country's undisputed data center capital, and the numbers support that position clearly.

As of September 2025, Ho Chi Minh City hosts 13 existing data centers and has 12 more in the pipeline. That volume of upcoming facilities places it in the company of more established regional markets. The expansion is not just about adding square footage; it includes hyperscale developments, advanced facilities, and dedicated cloud regions.

The city's attractiveness comes from a convergence of factors. It is Vietnam's largest commercial hub, with high demand for digital services from both enterprise users and consumers. It benefits from the country's lowest-in-region construction costs, ranging from $6 million to $8 million per MW. Its proximity to international subsea cable networks also makes it a strategic location for regional connectivity.

The incoming Personal Data Protection Law will reinforce Ho Chi Minh City's status further. With Vietnamese user data required to remain in-country from 2026, businesses operating at scale will need local infrastructure. A major metropolitan hub with existing data center density is the natural choice for that investment.

The hyperscaler interest tells its own story. Both Google and Alibaba have selected Ho Chi Minh City for their first Vietnam-based hyperscale facilities, expected to go live by 2027. When two of the world's largest technology companies independently choose the same city for their inaugural regional infrastructure, the signal is clear.

Vietnam's data center ambition is real, and Ho Chi Minh City is where much of it is being built.
