Whirlpool

Whirlpool

A Poem by Alaska

Tomorrow you'll wake up
in a whirlpool of sweat & numbness
& the taste of heartbreak will be fresh in your mouth
It'll come slowly at first,
like the first few drops of rain,
before the storm that tears everything apart
& leaves you drowning,
soaking through everything you love
& sometimes you think you've got it together;
but it'll slip through your fingers
& break all over again,
like it did the last time
& the time before that,
& you will be okay again,
but you will never be okay the same way
you were when you were eleven;
when you were nothing but
skinned knees and honest smiles…

A great description of the constant struggle with heartbreak- whatever the cause. It really does make one yearn for earlier, simpler days doesn't it? I liked the way you broke up the sentences, it really helped add to the effect the poem has on the reader. Thanks for sharing.
