Desolation

Desolation

A Poem by Robert Brian Satterfield
"

A sad yet deep poem of destruction and renewal.

"

Thrashing winds ravish the land

destroying all in their path

leaving wreckage all about

with screams of sorrow and misery.

The earth is scorched with the rays of the sun

no green is in my sight

dust arises into the air

leaving me blind.

Then in the distance thunder rolls

the clouds come rushing in

the sky grows dark

and rain begins to fall.

The drops hit the ground

pelting the hardened soil

the thirst of the earth is great

it sucks the water deep.

Hours upon hours it pours

wetting all around

puddles build about the earth

saturating the ground.

Finally it stops

the trees begin to shine

they reach toward the heavens

praise for the renewal.

The next morning

dew is upon the ground

as I look about me

I see new green sprouting all around.
