Heaven can wait

We’ve spent our lives together,

Never have we had to contemplate

That we were not meant to be, never

Have we experienced other desires to sate;

All we ever needed was each other -

Each other’s best friend and lover.

 

We’ve spent as much time as we can

In each other’s complimenting company -

You’re my woman, I’m your man,

That’s the way it was preordained to be…

Inevitably, our bodies are worn down,

But heaven can wait for a while

For I haven’t smoothed your sad frown

With a laugh and a loving smile;

I know my time is nigh

But it’s “see you later”, not goodbye.

 

With trembling fingers I brush tears from your eyes,

Savoring my momentary strength,

Tell you “True love never dies -

We’ll reunite no matter after what length

As you've said, I've kept it straightforward, like lasting, steady and honest love... but it also reflects that I'm not much of the extravagant type myself - I prefer a night in and simply sitting and watching a film or something. I'm kind of like an old man in a young persons body :) As to your last comment, after years of being together, I think its the small things that mean the most (after all, those are the things people seem to miss the most).

Believing that we can see our loved ones in the next life - or in heaven, if such a place exists - is one of the only comforts to ease the worry of death, I feel, and because of this, it is a powerful concept - the religious believe it wholeheartedly, but even those that don't believe in a form of God wish they could at least wholeheartedly believe in heaven.
