Stunning

Stunning

A Poem by Rachel

Today, a stranger called me “stunning”.

In that moment, I was stunned…

One word from a stranger made me feel again.

One word from a stranger made me smile again.

One word from a stranger made me blush again.

One word from a stranger made me look kindly upon myself again.

But also…

That one word from a stranger made me think of you again.

That one word from a stranger made me miss you again.

That one word from a stranger made me hear the echo of your voice again.

That one word from a stranger made me hate you again.

And because of that, I don’t believe that one word from a stranger.

Because of that, I don’t believe I’m “stunning”.

Because if I was “stunning”, I wouldn’t hear that one word from a stranger…

I would hear that one word… From you.

Author's Note

Rachel
I was sitting in my office yesterday and the mail man (who I see regularly) randomly says "I just want you to know, you're stunning". I felt tears well up in my eyes immediately and my heart flutter a bit...
Then my heart fell to my stomach and the tears began to fall.

Writing this immediately upon feeling these emotions really helped me to process through them quickly. I am so glad I found a way to express these emotions rather than stuff them down deep inside!

Interesting poem here.....it's like the two sides of someone's character......

One seeking to move on and be appreciated again...and the other .....with memories of someone and the hurt and anger that entails.....

You do well to engage the reader with this mini-movie.....

Thanks for sharing..

I like this because it’s extraordinary.

I sense the emotions unraveling throughout this piece. And especially towards the end, it’s like a cry for help towards someone who you once valued a connection with. And you’re trying to keep the flame alive while they are totally blind to your efforts.

I know the feeling. It’s like an inner, violent scream. Until I learnt to value myself more than anything. That way I don’t lose myself in any kind of relationship.

Interesting read. Very insightful.
