The Love That Never WasA Poem by Israel 🇵🇷A heartfelt reflection on letting go of someone toxic, a love that never bloomed but left its mark.
I held a dream, a fragile thread,
Of something pure, but left unsaid. Your presence lingered, sharp and cold, A story half-begun, yet old. You stood just out of reach, it seemed, A phantom love I never dreamed. Your words were honey, thick with lies, Your smile a mask, a thin disguise. I built you up, a shrine of stone, Believing you could be my home. But every touch, each fleeting glance, Became a weight, a fleeting chance. The echoes of what could not be Kept haunting, clawing, holding me. Yet now, at last, the tether’s gone, The night retreats, here comes the dawn. I see you now for what you are, A distant, dim, unburning star. No light, no warmth, no tender glow, Just shadows I no longer know. So here I stand, my heart set free, Unbound from who you’ll never be. A love unformed, I lay to rest, And find my peace in what is best. © 2025 Israel 🇵🇷Author's Note
