Man: Know Thyself

Man: Know Thyself

A Poem by Raymond Federle

A sense of power and pride must not override the senses.

It must glorify the hour.

Circumstances provided, in the face of such chaos all men are known.

Lies and deceit soften the foundation of victory, crumbling the mind and tormenting the soul.

Though outside lies calamity and perdition, calm pacifism reigns one's complexion on the world.

Tremors dispersed and absorbed, into courage and honor/

In the face of death does man truly live.

Nice poem. If I could give it a title, it would be "Into courage and honor". I agree with Ricochet about it sounding like war, so that title seems to fit best. :)

Made me think about Iraq and the ambushes and fire fights we got into there. Never in my life have I ever felt more alive than in those moments. Ever see one of those movie scenes where the bad a*s calmly walks away from a huge explosion that's right behind him? Trust me, in real life, no one can do that. Your a*s is on the ground faster than you can think and there's a fair chance you'll piss your pants, even if you know it's coming. Good poem. I like how all the sentences go "POW!" at the end. Keep up the good works bro.
